Preston Tucker:
Isn't that the idea? To build a better mouse trap?
Abe Karatz:
Not if you're a mouse!
These are some of the safety features used by the Tucker Corporation in the Tucker 48' that are still being used in cars today. There was over $17,000,000 in stock sold from the Tucker Corporation, proof that the public believed in the car and wanted new and innovative products. Many new innovations were inserted into the car, some never seen by the public in a car before. There were safety features that would have saved lives, such as a roll bar to prevent the roof from compressing during crashes. There were also pop-out windows that, in the event of a crash they would pop out and prevent the passengers from being hit with shards of glass. Finally, there was the "crash chamber", which passengers could duck into in the event of a crash. Even after the safety features, there was the 150-horsepower engine, which could go 0 to 60 in 10 seconds. Overall, the Tucker 48' was one of the most technologically advanced, safe cars ever produced.
The Tucker Corporation also wrote a letter to the government about their involvement in the car, and how it prevented them from acquiring hardware for the car.
